But, if I could have a light-weight scuba system that could allow me to explore a little more than a snorkel without the bulky (and expensive) gear, and without the need for certification, then I’d be all over it. And that’s where MiniDive comes in.
MiniDive is a French company that makes a small (0.5L) tank with regulator that straps comfortably to your chest, allowing you to explore the shallow seas without the fuss of bigger scuba systems, and without the risk of inhaling sea water like with a snorkel.
The coolest thing is that the system is compact, meaning you can take it on a plane (tank empty, valve open), and pump it yourself with the included hand pump, or with a small electrical pump. I keep an electrical pump in my cars in case of flats anyways, so this is easy.
Underwater time is about 10 minutes on a full tank. And although the system can go down to 50 meters (164 feet), you’re only supposed to go to 3 meters (9 feet) due to regulations. But still, if you’re looking for a better time than just a simple snorkel, this is the way to go.
Orders ship from France in about 3-5 days, and it depends on shipping options after that on when you can get it.
